Rogue One: A Star Wars Story screenwriter Gary Whitta has tweeted concept art that appears to be for a reboot of 80s sci-fi film The Last Starfighter.
Whitta didn't tie the art, by concept artist Matt Allsopp, to a particular project, saying it was "probably a little early" to show the images. Whitta confirmed that he was working on the untitled project with his writing partner Jonathan Betuel.
Here's the art Whitta shared, which appears to depict updated versions of The Last Starfighter's Gunstar spaceships:
Okay, probably shouldn’t show you this so early but here’s a little something I’ve been tinkering on with my co-writer Jonathan Betuel. You might recognize the ships. Thanks to the amazing Matt Allsopp (lead concept artist on ROGUE ONE) for creating these images for us. pic.twitter.com/CIobLYYRHk— Gary Whitta (@garywhitta) April 4, 2018
The Last Starfighter, released in 1984, tells the story of a video game expert who discovers the game he's mastered, "The Last Starfighter," is secretly a training program to pilot an alien fighter ship.
