Avengers: Infinity War screenwriter Steven McFeely has issued a warning for for fans: there are gonna be some emotional moments in the film, tied directly to Thanos' fight to seize all six Infinity Stones, and each one is going to cost the Avengers, big time.

"They’re still spread out. Remember, one of our jobs, we’re big structure guys," McFeely told ScreenRant. "So if you go back and look at Winter Soldier and Civil War particularly, they are, whether you like the movies are not, they’re pretty well structured. Big choices have been made. We had to do the same thing here and yet we had six MacGuffins – it can be relentless if you do this right."

MeFeely mentions "six MacGuffins" - the six Infinity Stones - potentially confirming the Soul Stone, the only one of the artifacts not yet appearing on film, will debut in Infinity War. But there are five other stones Thanos has to presumably get first - and each one of them will cost the Avengers dearly.

"Which means, every time you collect [an Infinity Stone] – I don’t mean to get into the screenwriting weeds – but every time you collect one, it can’t just be a check mark," McFeely explained. "It has to do something characterful. It’s got to move the plot forward but it also has to have stakes and cost for literal characters at the time, so that it’s not just a shopping spree. And I think we’ve done that and boy, we’re going to wrench some emotion out of each and every one of those moments that we can."

So far, the trailers for Avengers: Infinity War have only shown Thanos with the Space and Power Stones - however two of the other stones, the Mind Stone and the Time Stone, are in the hands of Avengers Vision and Doctor Strange, respectively. And that's saying nothing of what Thanos may do to the Nova Corps and Loki to get the aforementioned Power Stone and Space Stone - nor what he may do to the Collector to seize the Reality Stone.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters April 27.
