JUNE MOON1 of 12As DC heads into the summer, the publisher is kicking off some long-awaited high-profile stories from superstar writers Brian Bendis and Scott Snyder, as well as several other new titles.
But DC's June solicitations offer a few surprising revelations and unannounced changes as well. From unexpected story developments to missing titles, Newsarama takes a look at some of the key things we learned in DC's June solicitations.
CATWOMAN v JOKER2 of 12
There are a lot of "versus" stories in June's solicitations, as DC releases a series of promised "Prelude to the Wedding" issues. But Tom King and Mikel Janin's pre-wedding Joker story in Batman also has a surprising "versus." According to the solicitation for Batman #49, readers won't see the usual Joker versus Batman story, but will instead see the "Cat vs. the Clown."
MISTER MISSING3 of 12Mister Miracle is taking a break in June, with artist Mitch Gerads confirming on
TEAM-UP TIME4 of 12
There are some interesting team-ups and guest stars in June titles. Fans already knew about the upcoming team-ups between Hanna Barbera and DC characters, as well as the "Prelude to the Wedding" battles, but other DC titles feature some pairs that weren't previously announced.
From Helena Bertinelli and John Contantine to Damage meeting Gorilla Grodd to Superman in Green Arrow and Black Lightning hanging with Batman (as Bryan Hill starts on Detective Comics), characters in the DC Universe are getting around come June — and in unusual ways.
BYE-BYE BOMBSHELLS5 of 12
The digital-first series Bombshells United is ending in June, concluding the story of the retro characters that were the main heroes on their earth. But the Bombshells have relaunched before, so it's probable that despite this "final issue" in June, they'll be back.
FINAL BATTLE?6 of 12The solicitation for the June issue of New Super-Man and The Justice League of China does not announce that it's a "final issue," but the copy says it's their "final mission." Might New Super-Man be going solo again? Or is the "final" battle less final than it sounds?
CREATIVE SHIFTS7 of 12
While there are several new creative teams and new books highlighted in June's solicitations, only a few are unexpected. Among them are indie favorites Shawn Aldridge on Batgirl and Mairghread Scott on Green Arrow (a story the writer has announced is a two-parter).
It also looks like Christopher Sebela could be taking over Harley Quinn, writing a character he got to spotlight previously in Injustice: Ground Zero.
RING TROUBLE8 of 12
As promised by writer Tim Seeley, Jessica Cruz's ring is growing more sentient, but it looks like she and Simon are going rogue in Green Lanterns to avoid Hal Jordan and the rest of the Corps.
That seems like role reversal for Hal — who's often been on the run from the Corps before (even pretty recently). This time, he's the one trying to take away Jessica's ring.
METAL PICK-UP9 of 12The Batman Who Laughs appears to be sticking around post-Metal, as he's featured in the solicitation for The Immortal Men #3. And it looks like New Challengers might be picking up another thread from Metal, as they go deep into the ocean to collect an ancient artifact that just might be connected to recent events in Metal.
SUPERMAN'S FAMILY10 of 12
There's been plenty of anticipation about Brian Bendis' run on Man of Steel, but solicitations for the series have revealed that something is happening to Lois and Jon — presumably something bad, and definitely something that's taking them out of the picture (or at least, is taking Lois away from work).
It's likely that whatever is happening to Superman's family, it will be fixed by the end of the mini-series, but the tagline that teased something destroying Superman's "future" makes more sense now that it's clear Lois and Jon are involved.
BATMAN v BATWOMAN11 of 12
Anyone reading recent Bat-stories knew it was coming: Batman versus Batwoman. The two have been at odds in more than one title, with Batwoman even recently starting her own "yes-we-will-kill" team. The fight with Batwoman will take place in the character's solo title in June.
