Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo says that Avengers: Infinity War will only build on the complicated relationships the Avengers have developed over previous films - including sticking with the budding romance between Black Widow and Bruce Banner that emerged in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

“They’re star-crossed lovers. So it’ll be something they’re dealing with for the rest of their living days I think," Ruffalo told of the relationship. "Whether it’s requited or unrequited, I don’t imagine that’s gonna go away any time soon in one iteration or another.”

Tensions among the rest of the Avengers are high in the film thanks to the events of Captain America: Civil War - which Ruffalo says Banner "doesn't understand...He just doesn't get it." But Banner/Hulk may have a secret weapon for bringing the team back together - his special knowledge of their enemy, Thanos.

"Banner knows probably more about Thanos than probably anybody and he’s really trying to impress on everybody how dangerous he is,” Ruffalo explained, quipping “The Hulk is also mightily impressed by Thanos.”

“There’s no way to overcome what they’re facing without in some way coming to terms with their differences and embracing their diversity,” he continued. “That’s essentially a core value of the film and that together, only together, can they triumph.”

As for what that knowledge is, or how Banner/Hulk acquired it, those answers will likely come when Avengers: Infinity War is released worldwide on April 27.
