Syfy has optioned the Image Comics series Roche Limit for a potential live-action series, reports io9. The NBCUniversal-owned cable channel has ordered a pilot script, commissionioning Will Pascoe (Orphan Black) to write and possibly serve as a showrunner (should it be ordered to series). Heavy Metal and Fremantle Media are also involved as co-producers.
“What’s really cool about Roche Limit - in addition to its rich world and characters - is that in the age of serialized, mysterious genre storytelling, it totally fit in, right alongside The Expanse or even something like Stranger Things," said co-creator/writer Michael Moreci. "Plus, it has the sophisticated level of inquiry into the human condition - a must for scifi - which I think viewers will love.”
The original Roche Limit series by Moreci and artist Vic Malhotra debuted at Image in 2014. It has gone on to have three miniseries at Image.
"Twenty years after this promise, billionaire Langford Skaargard's dream of cosmic exploration is no more," reads Image's description of the initial miniseries. "Roche Limit, a colony situated on the cusp of a mysterious energy anomaly, is a melting pot of crime and terrible secrets. When Bekkah Hudson goes missing, the search to find her will plunge her sister and a cadre of the colony's underworld figures into an odyssey that reveals a grim future for mankind."
