Bollywood-Style ARCHIE COMICS Film In Development

Archie Comics has partnered with Graphic India to develop a "Bollywood-style" live-action film based on Archie Andrews and the Riverdale gang. Tentatively titled Archie In Bollywood, the two companies are currently working on a a screenplay with unspecified writers.

“We are supremely excited to partner with the great team at Graphic India to bring Archie and his friends to Bollywood,” said Jon Goldwater, Archie Comics CEO. “Archie’s lasting and growing presence in India made this move the logical next step as our stellar library of characters continues to expand into other media. It’s a major moment for Archie and its fans around the world.”

This isn't the first ime Graphic India has worked to import American-style comic book media into India - in 2013 the company partnered with Stan Lee and POW! Entertainment for an animated movie, comic book, and toyline based on the co-created character Chakra: The Invincible. Graphic India's CEO/co-founder also created/wrote Marvel's Spider-Man: India series

“Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead have been a source of inspiration for numerous Bollywood films over the years, and now it’s time to take them fully into Bollywood in an exciting new twist of a story that we have planned,” said Devarajan. “These characters have held a special place in the hearts of Indians for decades and we have no doubt that the new Indian cast of Archie and the gang will be an exciting moment for the country.”

Archie Comics' Riverdale television series currently airs in India on the Colors Infinity channel.

In the early 2000s, an Archie Comics storyline called "Love Me Baby, Mumbai" featured the Riverdale teens going to Mumbai ater Raj Patel, an Indian-American character, makes an amateur Bollywood-style film called Love Hate Triangle which becomes an online hit. The storyline was part of an ambitious plan for Archie Comics to break into the Indian bookstore market in 2011.
