Humans actor Gemma Chan has been cast Kree geneticist/spy Minn-Erva (a.k.a. Doctor Minerva) in Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel film, according to multiple Hollywood trades, and Chan herself.
Doctor Minerva first appeared in 1977's Captain Marvel #50 by Scott Edelman and Al Milgrom as an adversary for Marvel' original Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell. In comic books, she has similiar powers to Carol Danvers (the current Captain Marvel and lead of the movie), as they were both subjected to the Kree Psyche-Magnetron.
Chan joins actors Brie Larson, Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ben Mendelsohn on the 1990s-set movie. The film is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, based on a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Meg LeFauve, and Nicole Perlman.
Captain Marvel is scheduled to open in theaters Marh 8, 2019.
