Ron Howard has announced that Jon Favreau has joined the cast of Lucasfilm's Solo: A Star Wars Story, voicing "a very cool & important alien character." The news came after Favreau posted a picture of him, Howard, and Solo writer Lawrence Kasdan on Twitter.
Wondering why we r all together? @Jon_Favreau is voicing a very cool & important alien character for #HanSolo Flattered & fortunate I could pull him away from his #LionKing directing duties https://t.co/W5N7YoAlq6— Ron Howard (@RealRonHoward) February 14, 2018
This will actually be Favreau's second Star Wars role, as he voiced the Mandalorian rogue Pre Vizsla in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. While Mandalorians' are "aliens" in Star Wars lore (everyone is, essentially), given Vizsla's human appearance and Howard saying Favreau would "voice" a character it would seem to be a seperate part. That, and Darth Maul beheaded Vizsla in the "Shades of Reason" episode, which in Star Wars' timeline took place several years before the events of Solo.
Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters May 25.
