Arrest Made In Murder Case Of TESS RICHEY, Francis Manapul's Sister-In-Law

An arrest has been made in the investigation of the death of Tess Richey, sister-in-law of DC Comics artist Francis Manapul.

Kalen Schlatter, 21, was arrested near his Toronto residence on Sunday, February 4, acording to Toronto police (via CBC). Schlatter has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Richey, who came up missing November 25, 2017 with her body discovered four days later.

The coroner's report indicated the cause of death was due to neck compression or strangulation, and was deemed a homicide.

According to police detectives, Richey met Schlatter the night she went missing. The security images circulated following her disppearance showed Richey, a friend named Ryley Sinard, and a third individual believed by the police to be Schlatter. Although unidentified at the time, the police noted him as a "personal of interest."

Richey's sister Varina was on social media Monday morning announcing the arrest.

"As many of you know, Kalen Schlatter was arrested in the murder of my sister, Tess Richey," tweeted the victim's sister, Varina Richey, on Monday. "My heart is broken but at least we have a few answers to the multitude of questions we have. More confused as ever but thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone for your amazing support."
