Lois Lane and Lex Luthor are set to be the lead characters in a new-live action DC show launched in 2019 called Metropolis. Produced by Gotham's John Stephens and Danny Cannon, it will be set prior to the arrival of Superman. Metropolis was ordered direct-to-series for DC's as-yet-unnamed digital service with a 13-episode order.
Metropolis will "investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city's dark and bizarre secrets," according to Variety. The Hollywood trade adds that the show was originally pitched to Fox to act as a companion to Gotham. Both shows follow the thematic revisiting of classic DC heroes' origins (as well as being named after a DC fictional city) that began with the early 2000s WB/CW show Smallville.
This is the fourth original show Warner Bros. is developing for the DC digital service, following Titans, Harley Quinn, and Young Justice: Outsiders.
