Pirates of the Carribean director Gore Verbinski has exited 20th Century Fox's X-Men spin-off Gambit, according to Deadline.
Verbinski's reported exit is said to be due to scheduling conflicts. Verbinski was the third director to take on the project, which has been in development since 2014. He was preceded by directors Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt, both of whom cited scheduling conflicts as well in their departures.
The Hollywood trade also reports that actor Channing Tatum is still attached to star in the titular role, as well as produce. Due to the Disney/Fox acquisition projected to take as long as 18 months (and being subject to government review), all signs from Fox have had its TV and movie projects moving ahead as planned.
Gambit is scheduled for a February 14, 2019 theatrical release.
