Following a tease several weeks ago, Disney has confirmed that Kendrick Lamar isn't just working on a song for Marvel Studios' Black Panther film - he's working on an entire album.
Lamar has curated and produced an album of music from and inspired by the Black Panther film with Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith titled, fittingly enough, Black Panther: The Album. Lamar has recorded the lead single, "All The Star," with SZA, which is available now on Spotify.
“Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director," said Lamar. "The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I'm truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan Coogler and Marvel's vision."
Disney said that it was Black Panther writer/director Ryan Coogler who chose Lamar for this project.
“I am honored to be working with such an incredible artist whose work has been so inspirational, and whose artistic themes align with those we explore in the film," said Coogler. "I can't wait for the world to hear what Kendrick and TDE have in store."
Lamar is scheduled as the central performer in the College Football Playoff National Championship game on Monday, January 8. A new Black Panther "sneak peek" is also scheduled to air during that game.
