Cartoonist Sonny Liew has been named one of 10 finalists in Straits Times' annual Singaporean of the Year award. Straits Times, which is Singapore's largest newspaper, has given this award out annually since 2015. 2016's winner was Olympic gold medalist Joseph Schooling.
Liew is best-known as creator of the OGN The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye. The Malaysian-born artist has also illustrated DC's Doctor Fate and will be the artist of the upcoming Eternity Girl from Young Animal.
The winner will be announced in a ceremony scheduled for February 6, with Singapore's president Halimah Yacob attending as a guest of honor. The winner will receive $20,000 and a trophy, with the remaining nine finalists each getting $5,000.
