While Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige has balked at the idea of R-rated Marvel Studios films before, in light of Disney's acquisition of Fox, CEO/Chairman Bob Iger has opened the door to R-Rated Marvel films - including more Deadpool sequels, although not necessarily under the Marvel Studios brand.
"[Deadpool] clearly has been and will be Marvel-branded," Iger said during Disney's morning conference call (as covered by The Hollywood Reporter. "But we think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool. As long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine.”
While no Marvel Studios film has been produced with an R-rating, several of the Netflix shows including Jessica Jones have carried a TV-MA rating - which is in effect the television equivalent of an R-rating, as the Federal Communications Commission classifies it as a "program is specifically designed to be viewed by adults and therefore may be unsuitable for children under 17."
