Valiant Entertainment's Shadowman has a new lease on life thanks to writer Andy Diggle and artist Stephen Segovia. How? They're launching a new ongoing Shadowman title, scheduled to begin March 28. Framed as the company's most important new series of 2018, Shadowman has a two-year roadmap driving Jack Boniface through Valiant's paranormal underworld.
“It’s a story about stepping out of the shadows and embracing the light. Trying to move on from your own mistakes and be a better man. Of course, it's not easy,” said Diggle. “As Shadowman, Jack will never fully be able to escape his own demons. It's about learning to live with them. And as he comes to a better understanding of himself and his family's legacy, he'll discover whole new worlds and new powers he never even imagined he had.”
Segovia will draw the first arc - a three-issue story titled "Fear the Dark" - where Boniface is pulled out of retirement and back into the guise of Shadowman.
“Andy Diggle is a phenomenal new addition to Valiant, and he brings an incredible amount of vision and precision to his long-term plans for one of Valiant’s most seminal characters,” said Valiant Editor-in-Chief Warren Simons. “Together with the exceptional Stephen Segovia - who is delivering page after page of stunning, career-defining work on this series - this team is gearing up to unleash what will be one of Valiant’s most important series and a central new pillar for our publishing line.”
Shadowman was originally created in 1992 by Jim Shooter, Steve Englehart, and Mike Manley, and has starred in several of his own titles as well as video games. Earlier this year, the company announced that Reginald Hudlin was hired to direct a Shadowman movie.
In comic books, Shadowman last appeared in October 4's Shadowman/Rae Sremmurd one-shot. A previous Shadowman ongoing ran for 16 issues from 2012 to 2014.
March 28's Shadowman #1 will have a host of variant covers, including a rare "Glow In The Dark" variant by Tonci Zonjic. Other covers will be done by Segovia, Renata Guedes, Juan Jose Ryp, Raul Allen, and Travel Foreman.
