Luciano Cunha's Brazilian comic The Awakener has been optioned for a live-action feature film and a television series by Warner Bros.'s Turner Latin America. Gus Bonafe is directing the film, which is scheduled to begin shooting this month. Downtown Films and Paris Movies are slated to distribute the film for an anticipated mid-2018 release.
"A personal tragedy makes Miguel, federal police special forces agent, to elect the Brazilian endemic corruption as his main foe," reads the film's description. "And he begins his revenge against the political class during the presidential elections."
The Awakener TV series is scheduled to air on Brazil's Space channel, which is under the Warner Bros. umbrella.
A North American release schedule has not been given.
