Fresh off his run on Wonder Woman with Greg Rucka, artist Liam Sharp will take on double duty as artist and writer for the new series The Brave and the Bold: Batman and Wonder Woman.
The six part series will bring elements of Irish and Celtic mythology to Wonder Woman's mythos and the DC Universe at large. In The Brave and the Bold, Wonder Woman will enlist Batman to help her investigate the death of a Celtic god.
“The fact that they’ve pegged it to The Brave and the Bold makes so much sense. It’s thrilling,” Sharp told the Washington Post. “It kind of gave it even more gravitas and gave it a real reason for being. It just seemed like perfect timing. There’s an element of classicness to the whole concept as well. It just gives it more weight.”
“It’s an adventure. It’s a mystery. It’s all the things that I hoped people would come to expect from a Wonder Woman and a Batman story.”
The series will also explore a romantic connection between Wonder Woman and Batman, according to Sharp.
“I fell very much in love with the Steve Trevor and Diana story during the series with Greg. We felt like we gave him a certain richness to his personality that perhaps he’d lacked somewhat previously," Rucka explained. "There was a sense that the fanbase said this is right and this is how it should be. So I don’t want to spoil that. That’s the [Wonder Woman] that we created and that’s the dynamic that we created, but at the same time there is a [romantic] nod [to Batman].”
The Brave and the Bold: Batman and Wonder Woman #1 is due out on shelves February 21, 2018.
