Illumination Entertainment is in talks with Nintendo for a deal to make a Super Mario Bros. animated feature film, according to the Wall Street Journal. The newspaper said the deal has had its complications, centered around making the Japanese game company "feel confident it will be involved enough in the creative process".
Shigero Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri are in line to be producers on the film, according to WSJ.
Super Mario Bros. has previously been adapted as an anime movie, an anime miniseries, several American cartoons, and a live-action movie. Bowser and the Super Mushroom cameo's in Walt Disney Animation's 2013 film Wreck-It Ralph.
Back in 2014, Sony was in talks with Nintendo for an animated Super Mario Bros. film but a deal was never announced.
