The final post-credits scene of Thor: Ragnarok leaves Grandmaster's fate somewhat ambiguous, but he almost had a very different journey - literally. Director Taika Waititi actually filmed a separate post-credits scene that made the Grandmaster's next whereabouts a bit more integral to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Spoilers ahead for Thor: Ragnarok.
“The thing [with Loki and Thor], that was the thing we did in reshoots. It was a last minute decision," Waititi told Collider of Ragnarok's first post-credits scene in which the ship of Asgardian refugees encounter what appears to be Thanos' flagship. "And the other thing at the end, with the Grandmaster, was something we shot on Gold Coast that was something I planned for a long time. It was either going to be that or it was going to be Topaz and Grandmaster stowing away on the ship at the end.”
In the stinger that made it into the film, Grandmaster emerges from a broken down ship in the junkyard, surrounded by scavengers. He declares the Sakaarian revolution "a tie" as they close in. In the alternate scene - which Waititi says may see the light of day on home video - Grandmaster and Topaz would have been on the Asgardian ship.
It's unknown if Grandmaster or Topaz will appear in any further Marvel films. Thor: Ragnarok is in theaters now.
