AMC's The Walking Dead returned with its eighth season on Sunday, with an average of 11.4 million people watching it live in North America according The Hollywood Reporter. That is down 35% from last year's season seven premiere, which was watched by an estimated 17.03m live.

Sunday's 11.4m live viewership was, however, slightly above the season 7 finale (11.3m).

The follow-up show, The Talking Dead, was watched by an estimated 4.2m live.
