New York Comic Con begins this week, and security has been noticably increased from previous years at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
"After the incident in Vegas, we have to be careful," said a Citadel Security agent, one of several third-party security teams hired by ReedPOP for NYCC.
Newsarama reached out to Lance Festerman, the global head of ReedPOP, who confirmed that they have increased private third party security for this year's show - which is in addition to the convention center's own security team and those of various exhibitors.
While he wouldn't discuss the details of NYCC's security measures, he said that "safety and security of our Fans is a primary concern for ReedPOP and we will do everything within our power to ensure they have a fun and safe experience at New York Comic Con."
"As we have every year we have increased investment in security in the form of personnel, equipment, and permanent staff," Festerman told Newsarama. "Every year we revisit our policies and procedures and update them to assure they are contributing to our goal of a safe and secure environment. We coordinate with local, state and national public safety agencies on all security matters. Security will be both visible and behind the scenes; always within distance to respond quickly to any onsite need."
NYCC runs October 5 through 8.
