20 years after they last worked together in Titanic, director James Cameron has cast Kate Winslet in his now-in-production Avatar sequels.
“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career,” Cameron told Deadline. “I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”
Cameron offered no further details on Winslet's role, or who Ronal is in the context of the film series.
The first Avatar film, released in 2009, remains the highest grossing film of all time.
The first as yet untitled sequel is scheduled for a December 18, 2020 theatrical release. Three more sequels are planned, with production taking place concurrently.
