Kyanna Simone Simpson has joined the cast of CW's Black Lightning, reports Deadline. Simpson will play a new character named Keisha, the daughter of police inspector William Henderson (Damon Gupton).
"[Keisha is] the partner-in-crime/best friend of Jennifer Pierce (China Anne McClain), who also attends Garfield High School," reads the character's description. "The daughter of Inspector Henderson (Damon Gupton), Keisha will encourage Jennifer to challenge her image as the perfect principal’s daughter."
Simpson is best-known for her role as a younger version of Oprah Winfrey's character Deborah in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. She also appeared in the TV series Law & Order: SVU, Being Mary Jane and Show Me A Hero.
“I am happy to bring some new talent to The CW!” Black Lightning executive producer Salim Akil said of the casting.
