Archie's Sabrina The Teenage Witch is being developed as a new television series for the CW, reports Variety. Unconnected to the previous animated and live-action shows, CW's Sabrina would instead be based on the recent comic book series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Robert Hack.
According to the Hollywood trade, the Sabrina show is framed as a "dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult, and witchcraft," comparable to Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist.
Aguirre-Sacasa, who serves as Archie's CCO and the Riverdale showrunner, is writing/executive producing the Sabrina series, with Lee Toland Krieger onboard as director. The project, like Riverdale, would be worked on under Greg Berlanti's Berlanti Productions alongside Warner Bros. Television.
The CW already airs Archie's Riverdale, and a Sabrina show would be a 'companion series' but not necessarily interconnected, continuity-wise.
