J.J. Abrams has agreed to return to the Star Wars franchise to co-write/direct/produce 2019's Episode IX. This comes after the departure of original director Colin Trevorrow.
“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
Abrams plans to co-write the film with Chris Terrio (Justice League, Argo).
Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled to be released May 24, 2019.
