Chinese comics and animation giant Tencent is joining the North American and English-language comic book market via a new partnership deal with Tapas Media. Tencent's Fox Spirit Matchmaker, Book of Yaoguai, Cupid's Chocolate-ing, Jack of All Trades, and Zombie Brothers will debut this month on the Tapas app.
“As Tapas grows its portfolio of content with leading entertainment brands and rising creators, it is with great excitement to be the platform that introduces Tencent AC’s highly popular animated and comic franchises to North America, and other English speaking countries around the world,” said Tapas CEO Chang Kim.
Tapas is one of the fastest-growing digital comics services in North America. Since it's launch in 2012, it has swelled to have 2 billion pages of content and a 2+ million user base.
"Tapas is one of our most important overseas partnerships. The cooperation between Tapas and Tencent AC will be key in helping to connect the global marketplace to the freshest and most popular comic IP from China's growing content industry," said Zou Zhengyu, Tencent's GM of Animation and Comics.
Tencent is China's largest digital comics platform, and the largest video game company in the world. Tencent has deals with Walt Disney, Warner Bros., Shueisha, Bandai, Kodansha, and others. Tencent is publically traded on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange
