Updated September 7, 2017: After unconfirmed reports that Jared Leto was displeased with the idea of other actors playing the Joker concurrent to his own performance in the role, the actor has publicly addressed the situation. The issue was brought up during a Destiny 2 press event by ODE, whose reporter Jessica Wakefeld told Leto she were confused by the idea that a solo Joker film wouldn't use Jared Leto.
“Yeah, I think so. I’m a little confused too," agreed Leto. "Yeah, there are a couple of things happening in the DC world.”
“I love the Joker. He’s a great character and really fun character to play. But it’s a big universe and when you play the Joker, there’s no ownership there," Leto added. "You have the honor of holding the baton for a little while and then passing it off. There are other films that are in development and I’m excited to see what comes from them.”
Original Story: Jared Leto isn't happy about the idea of other people playing the Joker, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Citing unnamed sources, the Hollywood trade said that the Suicide Squad co-star was "caught off-guard" by the rumors for a non-continuity Joker film starring a new actor.
"Leto is said to have made his displeasure with the notion of multiple Jokers known to his CAA agents, and rival agency WME has been using the concern to court him," purports THR.
Leto is reportedly onboard for a joint Harley Quinn/Joker movie with his Suicide Squad counterpart Margot Robbie.
Leto had previously voiced displeasure on several of his scenes being cut from Suicide Squad.
