How different is DC’s Dark Multiverse at the center of their new Dark Nights: Metal event than the DC Multiverse proper?

Not all that much it seems.

In a advance preview of October 4's Batman-Green Lantern mashup Batman: The Dawnbreaker #1 one-shot special by Sam Humphries and Ethan Van Sciver available to Diamond Comic Distributors retail customers, readers are introduced to a very familiar world with some differences ... that are also very familiar.

Spoilers ahead.

As described to Newsarama, the brief three-page preview begins in a Crime Alley no discernibly different than a DC Universe one, with a young Bruce Wayne standing over the bodies of his slain mother and father with Joe Chill's gun still smoking and aimed at Bruce. Chill runs and a furious Bruce runs after him. Then a Green Lantern ring suddenly appears before him.

Bruce, wearing a very traditional-looking Green Lantern uniform, furiously confronts Chill - who is counting the money from Thomas Wayne’s wallet - and uses the ring to conjure up the skeleton of some kind of monster, and then seemingly melts Chill Raiders of the Lost Ark-style.

In other Metal news, DC has also informed retailers a second printing of Dark Nights: Metal #1 will go on sale September 6. The new printing will feature a recolored cover but with no cover enhancements.
