Although Syfy's Krypton spun figuratively (and somewhat literally) out of Warner Bros.'s Man of Steel, producer Cameron Welsh points to John Byrne and Mike Mignola's 1987 The World of Krypton as a deeper inspiration.

In a video produced by DC Entertainment, panels from The World of Krypton are interspersed with Comic-Con International: San Diego interviews with Walsh and series star Cameron Cuffe (Seyg-El) that point out Byrne and Mignola's influence and Man of Steel.

"John Byrne's The World of Krypton - we drew a lot from that," said Welsh." And the Man of Steel opening, with David Goyer being creator of this show. He has such a deep, extensive knowledge of all that. Relatively speaking, it's kind of an unexplored part of the DC universe and Superman mythology."
