Jack Thorne has been hired to rewrite the script for Lucasfilm's planned 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Director Colin Trevorrow and his long-time writing partner Derek Connolly were originally set to write the script, but Thorne is being brought in now as a "fresh set of eyes."
Thorne wrote the upcoming Julia Roberts film Wonder, and comes from British television shows ranging from BBC's His Dark Materials adaptation to several of the This Is England series. In 2014, Thorne was hired to write a screenplay for Warner Bros.'s planned Sandman adaptation.
Star Wars: Episode IX is anticipated to begin filming in January 2018 for an eventual May 24, 2019 release date.
