Fall Into LEGACY1 of 12
This year, October will bring the Autumn leaves – and the onset of “Marvel Legacy,” the publisher’s marketing initiative which aims to return some of their classic franchises to their roots.
Many of Marvel’s solicitations have already been previewed over the last several weeks thanks to “Legacy,” but there are still some surprises to be found in the newly-released full solicits.
Fortunately, we’ve taken the time, as we do every month, to analyze the news at hand in the solicits and boil it all down to these ten things we learned from Marvel’s October solicitations.
WEAPON H vs. the Original WEAPON X2 of 12
The fallout from the Totally Awesome Hulk/Weapon X crossover “Weapons of Mutant Destruction” continues in October as “Weapon H,” the Wolverine/Hulk hybrid will go on a rampage in Weapon X #9, leading to a big payoff in #10.
That’s right – there will finally be a new twist on the old rivalry as Weapon H and Old Man Logan finally come face-to-face.
Ralph Returns3 of 12Long-time Marvel editor Ralph Macchio returns to the publisher in October for a story entitled Thor: Where Walk the Frost Giants in which Thor battles Ymir, lord of Niflheim.
Macchio retired from Marvel as an editor in 2011, though the bulk of his work as a writer took place in the 70s and 80s.
Hornet's Nest4 of 12
The return of the Slingers was presaged in the solicitation for September’s Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider #8 - but the solicit for October’s #9 teases an even bigger surprise.
It looks like Ben Reilly will have to deal with a new iteration of Hornet who may have a connection to the Scarlet Spider himself.
Jersey City Strong5 of 12
Kamala Khan is arguably the hero of Jersey City, but it seems that this fall she’ll face a little competition for the title as a new hero starts patrolling the city’s streets in Ms. Marvel #26.
According to the solicitation, Ms. Marvel will be “conflicted” over her relationship with the new hero, whose identity remains unrevealed.
Jailer's Identity Liberated6 of 12
Since the start of the Black Bolt ongoing series, the mystery of the Jailer's identity has been a consistent subplot in the title.
Now, in Black Bolt #6, the mystery of the Jailer’s identity will be solved, and according to the solicit, the answer is “more terrifying than any of them could imagine.”
BLACK PANTHER Movie Prequel7 of 12
Black Panther won’t be in theaters until February, but October’s Marvel’s Black Panther Prelude #1, a new story featuring the MCU version of T’Challa will begin.
The two-part series will revisit T’Challa’s origin as Black Panther before his debut in Captain America: Civil War.
GERT = Alive, Love = Dead?8 of 12
The return of the deceased Gert in the new volume of Runaways has been teased for some time, but it looks like her resurrection will come sooner rather than later.
The solicitation for October’s Runaways #2 mentions Gert’s return, posing the question of whether her romance with Chase has survived in her absence.
All-New Guardian9 of 12
All-New Guardians of the Galaxy launched with a core roster of the five team members featured in the films. But in October, that line-up will expand by one in All-New Guardians of the Galaxy #12.
Though the new team member’s identity is still classified, the “Legacy” variant cover for #11 includes several possibilities, such as Nova and Adam Warlock.
And there's always the possibility of Mantis, to become more in line with its latest movie.
Legacy Lost10 of 12
Among the titles previewed for October there are a few which were solicited in September, but which did not make their way into the following month. These include I Am Groot which has a confirmed ending, as well as Doctor Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme, Infamous Iron Man, and Nick Fury.
Likewise, The Unstoppable Wasp, Ultimates2, and Captain America were missing in September, and are still absent in October - further cementing their absence as permanent.
Gone Til November11 of 12
As stated previously, most of Marvel’s October solicitations were revealed prior to today’s full release as part of promotion for the company’s “Legacy” event. However, only about half the titles that were previewed with “Legacy” variant covers actually made it into the solicitations.
Marvel has confirmed that the remaining “Legacy” titles not solicited in October will debut in November 2017.
