Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 writer/director James Gunn has taken to Twitter to debunk rumors of a "reboot" coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the as yet untitled fourth Avengers movie.
"Not true," said Gunn, after a fan asked him directly if Marvel would reboot its film franchise. "The Guardians, at least, will continue on."
Another fan chimed in, suggesting the possibility of a "soft reboot," and comparing the idea to Marvel Comics' 2015 Secret Wars crossover, in which some aspects of continuity were rewritten but the Marvel Universe remained largely the same.
"Nice try. But no," said Gunn, also debunking that concept. "Not sure what a 'soft reboot' is though."
The still-untitled fourth Avengers movie is currently in production for a May 3, 2019 theatrical release.
