Archie Comics abruptly cancelled all of its Sonic the Hedgehog titles in April 2017, even nixing a planned Free Comic Book Day title. The publisher has now come forward with a brief statement about the hiatus.
"We are in communication with SEGA regarding Sonic and will provide an update when we have one to share," said an Archie Comics spokesperson. "We thank the fans for their patience."
Representatives from SEGA declined to comment.
Archie Comics has published Sonic the Hedgehog since 1992, with 290 issues to date before the stoppage in April - even earning a Guinness World Records' recognition as the longest-running comic book title based on a video game.
