When Spectacular Spider-Man #1 kicks off, Peter Parker is back in New York and focusing on his personal life, making plans with his best friend Johnny Storm and touching base with Aunt May, before saving a young woman from some muggers with an assist from Ant-Man. Despite a web-shooter malfunction, Spider-Man and Ant-Man rescue the woman, a comedian named Rebecca London, and Spider-Man (not Peter) makes plans to see her again.

Following up on his web-shooter issues, Peter pays a visit to Dr. Hophni Mason – a super-genius inventor who, according to Ant-Man and Sam Wilson, has helped many Marvel heroes perfect their crimefighting tech, and even consulted with Tony Stark and Reed Richards. There are just two problems – somehow, Spider-Man has never heard of Mason, and he’s also the brother of Phineas Mason, the Tinkerer, one of Spidey’s oldest foes.

However, with the endorsement of other heroes and of Uatu Jackson who has left the employ of Horizon Labs to work with Mason, Spidey lets him fix his webshooters, before heading to Chicago to track down the owner of a hacked Stark Industries smartphone - which are supposedly impossible to crack - and encountering someone wearing what looks like a version of Iron Man armor, who launches an attack.

As Johnny waits for Peter to embark on their earlier plans, a young woman shows up, introducing herself to Johnny as Peter’s sister Teresa – a surprise that seems to shock Johnny.

Some readers may actually recognize Teresa Parker/Durand from 2014’s Spider-Man: Family Business OGN in which the character made her debut. In that story, Peter Parker performed a DNA test that proved no relation between them, with Kingpin having brainwashed Teresa into believing she is Peter’s sister. However, at the end of the story, another test called those original results into question.

Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #2 is due out on shelves July 19.
