Marvel Comics has announced plans to publish a unique OGN by Starset lead singer Dustin Bates that works as a sort of 'concept album' tie in to the band's music. The Prox Transmissions will be written by Bates and Peter David, with Mirko Colak and other unnamed artists illustrating the 88-page graphic novel. The OGN will work as part of an over-arching concept that Bates has for his music and now comic book work called "The Starset Society."
“I'm incredibly excited to have the opportunity to create this graphic novel with Marvel Comics on behalf of the Starset Society,” said Bates. “I've been a fan of Marvel since I was a little kid wishing I was the Hulk (and little did I know how much I'd end up identifying with Bruce Banner as I grew into adulthood). It's an honor to be working with such an iconic brand to spread the inception story of the Society via The Prox Transmissions.”
According to Marvel, The Prox Transmisions is about a SETI radio astronomer named Dr. Stephen Browning, who discovers a secret transmission from outer space.
"His world begins to unravel as he discovers the cryptic message including information of advanced technology and a dire warning from the future," reads the description. "After Browning seeks aid of brilliant-yet-impetuous playboy Dr. Aston Wise, the two set off on an epic journey to discover the meaning of the transmission, only to discover that they are pawns in a much bigger game. Humanity hangs in the balance as powerful forces vie for control of the future, with only Wise and Browning to stop them."
The Prox Transmissions OGN is scheduled to debut in September.
