Kinberg has been with the franchise since since 2003's X2, but X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be his first time directing.
After X-Men: Apocalypse, Singer said he was taking a break from X-Men movies. He recently directed the pilot for the FX X-Men series The Gifted, and is currently in pre-production on the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is scheduled to be released November 2, 2018.
