New Mutants director Josh Boone has shared his vision of the film - and it's likely not what fans are expecting. Boone called the film a "full-fledged horror movie," telling Entertainment Weekly that he won't be going the traditional superhero route.

“We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe,” Boone explained. “There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.”

20th Century Fox has had recent success with more adult-oriented films set in the X-Men universe, such as the R-rated Deadpool and Logan. Some of the original New Mutants comic books included some horror elements, especially during stories such as "The Demon Bear Saga."

So far, only two characters for New Mutants have been cast, including Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, and Anya Taylor Joy as Magik. New Mutants is due out in theaters April 13, 2018.
