Warner Bros. is developing an animated adaptation of Watchmen, according to Comic Book Resources. As reportedly revealed in a Warner Bros. survey about upcoming home video releases, the animated Watchmen is a "faithful adaptation of the Watchmen graphic novel executed in an animation style that mirrors the source material."
The reported film is planned as a home video release. The survey does not mention anything about director Zack Snyder's 2009 live action adaptation of the series, or the animated tie-in. The listing also reportedly leaves out any mention of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, the creators of Watchmen. Moore has famously disavowed all adaptations and attempts to revisit Watchmen, while Gibbons was supportive of Snyder's film.
In 2015, reports circulated that HBO was in talks for a live action TV series, though no further development has been reported since.
No release date for the animated Watchmen was given in the report.
