This week's X-Men: Blue #1 launched the new "ResurrXion" adventures of the five time-displaced original X-Men. Writer Cullen Bunn and artist Jorge Molina captured a vintage feel for the original team, while also teasing the possible return of some other classic characters.
Spoilers ahead for X-Men: Blue #1.
Most of X-Men: Blue #1 consists of the team taking on Black Tom Cassidy and his friend the (redesigned) Juggernaut - who is harboring a violent grudge against Cyclops because his older counterpart killed Professor X way back in Avengers Vs. X-Men.
Remember, the Juggernaut is the step-brother of Charles Xavier.
While the team handles the threat with aplomb - with Beast using some dark magic he has apparently picked up in the present day - it's the end of the book that lays the groundwork for some mysteries to come. After revealing not only that the X-Men are working alongside Magneto as their mentor, but that there is a new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, we're given a denouement in which authorities attempt to capture what appears to be Jimmy Hudson, the second Ultimate Wolverine - remember a three-clawed mutant was shown on covers to future issues of X-Men: Blue.
But all of that was hinted at prior to the release of X-Men: Blue #1. The real revelations came from the issue's teaser page.
In a series of four panels, several major returns were teased. In the first panel, the team confront Jimmy/Wolverine. In the second, we see the original line-up of Generation X assembled for a fight, with Chamber saying "Who the hell are you wankers?". Could this be another time-displaced team?
Following that theme, the third panel features the future X-Men the team fought way back in Brian Michael Bendis's run, with Deadpool calling for a rematch.
And finally, in classic hand-to-the-temple pose, we see an image of Professor X saying "To me, my X-Men."
X-Men: Blue #2 is due out on shelves April 26.
