The details about 2017's Justice League have been sparse - especially about the villains - but actor Ciaran Hinds, who is playing Steppenwolf, has shed some light on his role as a general for Darkseid.
“[Steppenwolf is] old, tired, still trying to get out of his own enslavement to Darkseid, [but] he has to keep on this line to try and take over worlds," Hinds told Independent.
Steppenwolf appeared in a Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice deleted scene (as seen at right), but Hinds will debut in the role in Justice League - a part that required extensive motion-capture work, a first for the actor. Hinds said he received advance from Liam Neeson, who had just completed work in A Monster Calls as a tree.
“He sent me a little pamphlet of stuff – with him looking much more elegant than I was, I have to say.”
Hinds is best-known as a character actor, appearing in Game of Thrones, Rome, There Will Be Blood, and Ghost Rider: Spirits of Vengeance. His first major role, however, was in 1981's Excalibur - a film which had a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's opening flashback scene.
""They were great fans of Excalibur, Zack Snyder and his team. Maybe that’s how I got the role [in Justice League]! Who knows?" Hinds said. "There’s a bit when they’re walking in Gotham City and suddenly on a marquee of a cinema you see Excalibur playing.”
Justice League is scheduled to open in theaters November 17.
