DC Comics has informed retailers that the solicited Doom Patrol issues #7 through #9 have been cancelled, "and will be resolicited at a future date." Series writer Gerard Way has posted on Instagram a clarification, saying the series is "alive and well" and that "many more issues" are planned.
"I’ve heard some chatter but don't worry Doom readers, the series is alive and well," Way wrote. "I'll be talking about Doom Patrol and the rest of Young Animal all weekend at WonderCon. We are going to take the time to tell the best stories. And, there are absolutely many more issues to come, as Nick and I have lots of plans. #doompatrol"
The flagship title of DC's Young Animal imprint has had several unexplained delays since its launch in September 2016. Silver Surfer artist Mike Allred was solicited to draw Doom Patrol #7, but DC's cancellation of that solicitation puts his involvement in doubt.
Doom Patrol #5 was released earlier in March, and Doom Patrol #6 (originally solicited to come out in February) is now listed on DC's website with an April 19 release date.
