Woody Harrelson has revealed the name and a little bit about his character in the upcoming Star Wars: Han Solo film. During an appearance Wednesday on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon promoting his new film Wilson, Harrelson said that he'll play a character named Beckett.
"I play a guy named Beckett who is kind of criminal and mentor to Han," said Harrelson. "That's all I can say."
Harrelson did elaborate slightly, saying that he expects to be filming Han Solo through July. Watch the interview clip here:
There is no pre-existing Star Wars character named "Beckett," however there was a Corellian smuggler named Bek Nataal in 1995's Star Wars Adventure Journal #7. The closest thing to a mentor for Han Solo in previous stories has been Garris Shrike in the Star Wars expanded universe novel The Paradise Snare. Although now ontisde of Star Wars continuity, Shrike took in Solo as a runaway and raised him alongside a Wookie named Dewlannamapia.
The as-yet-untitled Star Wars: Han Solo film is scheduled to be released May 25, 2018.
