Sony's Columbia has set October 5, 2018 for its Venom feature film according to The Hollywood Reporter.
That date was reportedly recently vacated by Warner Bros.’ Aquaman which is said to be moved to December.
It’s unclear how or if the Venom film will connect to Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, which reboots the franchise in partnership with Sony. Venom is being written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, who also worked on Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man 2.
In 2014, when the Venom spin-off was connected to that franchise, Alex Kurtzman was attached to direct the film. ScreenRant reports that Kurtzman is still on board the film. But accordin to THR, no director is currently attached.
