Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn says he was "heavily involved" in how the Guardians fit into the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, including guiding both the films' directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, and the actors themselves in their role in Infinity War.
“I’ve been heavily involved in what the Guardians do in Avengers: Infinity War,” Gunn told i09. “I gave [the film’s directors the Russo brothers] tons of advice on how to direct the actors, talked to them a lot during the shooting, and talked to the actors a lot during the shooting to make sure that the Guardians are staying authentic.”
This is not unsual for Marvel Studios films, as many of the studio's directors have reported working closely to fit their films into the overall tapestry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Gunn may still be figuring out how involved he'll be in the just-confirmed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but his fingerprints may be all over the next few movies in the MCU, as he directed four Stan Lee cameos while Lee was on set for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Avengers: Infinity War is due out in theaters May 3, 2018.
