Spoilers ahead for this week's Amazing Spider-Man #25.
After briefly returning in The Clone Conspiracy only to have his clone body be seemingly destroyed at the end of that series, Doctor Octopus’s fate has been revealed in the pages of a back-up story in Amazing Spider-Man #25 by writer Dan Slott and artist Giuseppe Camuncoli.
Picking up by revealing that Otto Octavius had brain-jumped into a special clone body seen prior to his apparent death in The Clone Conspiracy, the story brings the now Spider-Powered Octavius back to one of his old labs.
Entering, he discovers that his lab has been overtaken by Hydra - the same one ramping up into the upcoming Secret Empire summer event. Octavius uses his Spider-Powers to defeat the Hydra agents, only to be confronted by Arnim Zola.
Zola tells Octavius that they share a common goal – taking down Parker Industries. Octavius agrees to join Hydra “for now,” leading a Hydra cabal in his new identity as "the Superior Octopus."
Amazing Spider-Man #26 is due out on shelves April 12.
