Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 could earn as much as $160 million domestically in its opening weekend box office, according to a prediction from BoxOffice.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie made an unexpected $94.3m domestically on its opening weekend in August 2014. An domestic opening weekend take of $160m would place Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 squarely in the middle of Marvel's sequel release numbers (according to TheNumbers), between Iron Man 3 ($174m) and Iron Man 2 ($128m).
BoxOffice's prediction is based on the performance of similar movies, the reception to promotional materials for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and social media buzz ahead of the film's release.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is due out in theaters May 5.
