An synopsis for Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok has been released via Entertainment Weekly. It describes the roles of Hela, Hulk, Valkyrie, the Grandmaster, Loki, and others in more detailsdetail.
Loki frees Hela from decades of imprisonment (in comic books, Hela is Loki's daughter). When she confronts Thor, she banishes him to the Grandmaster’s gladiatorial planet Sakaar, where his hair is cut and he loses Mjolnir. Valkyrie recruits Thor to the arena to take on the Hulk, the arena’s champion.
“Thor is a bit of a fanboy for the Valkyrie, the elite women warriors,” Hemsworth explained.
Meanwhile, for Hulk, Sakaar is a gamechanger.
“He’s much more of a character than the green rage machine you’ve seen in the Avengers movies,” said Mark Ruffalo. “He’s got a swagger. He’s like a god.”
Hulk and Thor unite after they escape Sakaar, embarking on a trip to New York to find Odin with the help of Doctor Strange – a journey that director Taika Waititi compares to the Steve Martin/John Candy comedy Planes, Trains, & Automobiles.
“[Chris Hemsworth is] so good and underutilized in that department,” Waititi said of the film’s star. “He’s legitimately one of the funniest things in this film.”
“A lot of what we’re doing with the film is, in a way, kind of dismantling and destroying the old idea and rebuilding it in a new way that’s fresh,” the director continued. “Everyone’s got a slightly new take on their characters, so in that way, it feels like [this is] the first Thor.”
The conclusion of Thor: Ragnarok hasn’t been spoiled, but will directly set up the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
Thor: Ragnarok is due out in theaters November 3.
