Marvel and Archie Comics are embarking on a new kind of inter-company crossover. While we won't see Hulk and Jughead in a hamburger eating contest anytime soon, Archie will be publishing a new line of licensed Marvel comics in their classic Digest format, according to Publisher's Weekly.
Titled Marvel Comics Digest, the content will feature Marvel's top heroes, but will be packaged and distributed by Archie six times a year.
The first volume of Marvel Comics Digest will be on shelves in June, and will feature stories of Spider-Man and the Avengers. Subsequent digests will feature Wolverine, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Iron Man, and more.
“For years, Archie has made the digest format our bread and butter,” said Archie publisher and CEO Jon Goldwater. “We are supremely excited to spotlight iconic characters like Spider-Man and the Avengers through this major partnership with Marvel. These books will serve as a great introduction to the Marvel Universe for new readers and a very special, curated selection of stories for existing fans.”
It's unclear whether Marvel Comics Digest will feature entirely new content or reprints of any kind. It's also unclear whether any new content included in the Digest will be created by Marvel, Archie, or both.
