The Society of Illustrators plan a gallery exhibition of the work of Will Eisner, in honor of what would have been the iconic cartoonist's 100th birthday on March 6 of this year. The exhibit will be a retrospective that spans two floors of the Society of Illustrators gallery in New York City.
Eisner is best known for creating the Spirit, a well-known pulp hero. But Eisner also pioneered the graphic novel format with stories such as A Contract With God and Life on Another Planet. Additionally, his contributions to the style and tools of moderning sequential art and cartooning are widely recognized, leading Eisner to lend his name to the premiere comic book awards given out each year at Comic-Con International: San Diego.
The exhibit will take place March 1 to June 3, with an opening reception to take place on March 10.
