Legendary Films has hired Arrival director DDenis Villeneuve to direct a new live-action adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune, according to the late author's son, Brian Herbert.
"It's official -- Legendary Pictures has signed the very talented Denis Villeneuve to direct the exciting new Dune series film project. More to follow soon," posted Herbert on Facebook.
In November, the Herbert family reached a deal with Legendary for the film and television rights to Frank Herbert's franchise. In December, reports indicated that Villeneuve was in talks to direct.
Villeneuve is currently in post-production on Blade Runner 2049. It's unknown if Villeneuve intends to take on Dune next, as he is also attached to direct an adaptation of Jo Nesbø's crime novel The Son.
